NZ Cranes lifts first new train for Greater Wellington on track

The first of 48 new trains (total of 96 carriages) arrived today, delivered by a large ro-ro vessel from Wallenius &Wilhelmsen at Centreport in Wellington. The Wellington City Council invested 235 Mln to improve reliability and comfort for travellers. The trains are Wellington’s first in 30 years, shipped from manufacturer Hyundai in South Korea, with a weight of 35 to 45 tonne for each carriage.

New Zealand Cranes Wellington supplied 2 cranes, lifting the trains from the transporter on to the railtrack. The operation, which was planned meticuously for many months went exactly on schedule under the watch of VIP's and Press.
